Obesity is a concern that we are battered with day and night by the current media, with the constant warning that our weight could be directly leading towards our own demise. If you buy the rumors, it’s a pandemic on society and is one of the prevailing reasons for all of society’s woes and even if that is an exaggeration, no one can deny that there are problems with weight in the current day and age. One aspect of obesity that is rarely considered is how obesity can affect one’s pets, companions that we carry with us through life but are usually given very little thought on their health unless their pet is showing signs of being ill. Obesity, same as with people, is the number one nutritional concern with pets in this country but only seventeen percent of pet owners believe that their pets are over-weight.

In truth, a poll of vets reveal that they believe forty to forty five percent of their patients are obese going by the standards of the BARC (Body Assessment Rating for Canines). The simple fact is that most pet owners don’t know how to tell if their pets are overweight or simply don’t believe that their dog is over-weight despite clear signs of it and, if they do acknowledge it, the methods they take to correct the problem can cause more problems then they solve!

As you can imagine, obesity carries many of the same health risks for dogs as it does for humans and is nothing to laugh about. Among the more serious conditions that obesity can cause in your canine is cardiac and respiratory problems that will be compounded by the exercise needed to work the weight off. What’s worse, obesity can compound other medical problems since the extra weight puts additional strain on all of your dog’s organs but especially their heart and lungs which can complicate surgeries and anesthesia since it can further strain an overweight dog’s heartbeat and breathing. There are less serious problems an overweight canine may experience as well, that also act as excellent indicators that your dog has a weight problem. If your dog seems unusually worn out when it gets hot out or begin to lose fur with no other cause readily available for it, it’s a sure sign that your dog’s weight has begun to affect his or her health.

So how does your dog get to be overweight? Well there’s very few reasons for a dog to become overweight and most of them relate solely to the owner, though hyperthyroidism is occasionally the cause as well, either from giving your dog an over-abundance of table scraps or treats because your dog has behaved well or gives you the titular ‘puppy dog eyes’. If you insist on giving your dog table scraps then it’s important that you keep your dog on a exercise regiment to keep the pounds off, which can be difficult if your dog isn’t used to such exercise. Two reasons why your dog may suddenly gain a lot of weight that a lot of people don’t consider is because you had your dog neutered or spayed, which can upset it’s internal chemistry.

Bipolar disorder is a common but poorly understood condition. It can vary from depression to mania. The patient characteristically has mood swings, ranging from extreme ecstasy to plumbing the depths of almost suicidal melancholy. Bipolar disorder usually lasts a life time. Between attacks some people are functional while others have lingering signs of the disorder. The cause of the condition is unknown. There is a theory that it may be genetic. Therefore a careful interrogation of the family history must be done. Others postulate a link with substance abuse or post-traumatic disorders.

Seroquel is an anti-psychotic medication available only by prescription. Seroquel is the trade-name for the generic drug Quetiapine Fumarate. Seroquel is used in the treatment of schizophrenia to control delusions, hallucinations, thought problems and difficulties connecting with reality. Seroquel may also be prescribed on a short-term basis for the treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder. Seroquel dosage amounts vary depending on the patient’s condition and response to medication. Some patients find a relatively low dose to be effective, while others will require a much higher dose. To find the appropriate dosage for an individual, the prescribing doctor will start with a low dose and increase gradually until the desired result is achieved.

Usually, dosages of Seroquel for the treatment of schizophrenia range from between 300 and 400 milligrams per day. This dose is divided into two or three small doses. For some patients, a low dose of 150 mg proves effective; some may exceed 400 mg, but rarely will a prescription be for more than 750 mg daily, and more than 800 mg per day has not been tested for safety. Dosing starts low and increases over a four day period to find the optimal dose. Seroquel can interact with other medications and herbal remedies and supplements, so it is important to report all herbal, OTC, and prescribed medications to the patient’s doctor. Seroquel can also cause and exacerbate certain medical conditions, and does carry a potential for side effects, so it is necessary to report all conditions (new or previously existing) to the prescribing doctor. You can always find places where you can Buy Seroquel online.

I get asked a lot how long should I mow my lawn? This is sort of a complex question. It depends on may variables, such as location, if the lot is wooded or not, what type of grass do you have. I plan to explore how long your lawn should be from a general standpoint and why.

If you mow your lawn too short it is very bad for your lawn. It can lead to your lawn being easily burned in the hot summer months. It is also easier to scalp the crests of hills. If your lot is wooded, it will also make your lawn appear that there is less grass. So with that said a good safe low height is three inches for your lawn when mowing. Now this height is a general rule of thumb. I will go over the other variables to consider shortly.

If your lawn gets too high, there are a whole new set of issues. One issue is that it can be hard to mow if the you ever decide that you want it shorter and leave a lot of unwanted grass built up on the lawn. If your lawn is shaded you may want to consider leaving it a bit on the high side, but not too high. A good High height is four inches for you lawn. Once again this a a good rule of thumb. There are other variables that one should consider when deciding how long they should mow there grass.

As a lawn care professional, all of the machines that we use are set to a lawn mowing height of three and one half inch. This is a very good happy medium between your lawn being at a safe height and the lawn not being left too long. It also tends to leave the lawns with the best striping possible.

There are other considerations. Such as new lawns should be left to grow to about 8 to 12 inches before you mow them. You should also consider giving the lawn extra time to grow between mows. This will allow the lawn to thicken up. You should consult with your Lawn care specialist for there recommendation before mowing.

It is also important to consider what type of grass you have. If you have Fescue grass it is recommended that you leave the lawn a bit taller as well, sometimes as high as four inches.

You may have seen athletes wearing colorful strips of tape on their bodies recently and are wondering what exactly it is. This is a type of athletic tape also referred to as kinesiology tape or physio tape. It became very popular practically overnight during the 2012 summer Olympics with millions of people watching athletes like volleyball players and cyclists wearing it. So what exactly is it?

Kinesiology tape was created to help athletes cope and recover from injury. The tape is made of cotton and elastic properties and can stretch up to 140% of its original length. The tape is meant to be applied while it is stretched therefore creating a recoil or pull back on the skin and muscle. This helps stabilize and support the injured muscle, joint or tendon. It also allows for a greater range of motion compared to other types of traditional tapes. The cotton in the tape dries quickly allowing for it to be worn longer, up to 5 days. This way the tape does not need to be reapplied every day. Kinesiology tape also lifts the skin allowing for better blood flow and creating less pressure on the injured area of the body. In some cases this results in pain relief.

There are 3 common ways that the tape is applied. The first is the “I” technique. This is when the tape is applied in a single linear strip. This is best for smaller muscles. The second way is the “Y” shape technique. This is used when the tape is split about halfway up the strip and stretched in opposite directions, creating a “Y” shape. This is usually used for larger muscles. The third way that the tape is commonly applied is the “X” technique. This is when the tape strip is split on either end and pulled apart while leaving the middle together, creating an “X” shape. This is covers the most area, therefore is used for the largest muscles, joints or tendons.

Kinesiology tape is not easily found at your corner sports store. Online is the best way to find it. There are a few websites and brands that supply the tape.  A website that I recommend is RecoveryTape.com. They supply high quality tape at the lowest prices. Check them out, http://recoverytape.com and give kinesiology tape a shot. It can’t hurt.

hip-pain-after-sitting

Our hips do a lot of work for us. They support our bodies, put up with the repeated motion of back and forth while we walk and run, and help us to dance the night away when needed. They are not indestructible, however, and over time, they may begin to hurt. If you are experiencing hip pain, you might be curious as to what may be causing it. If so, we may just have the answers you need.

Our hips are made up of two ball and socket joints, actually the largest of all the joints in our bodies. They are designed to withstand a lot of wear and tear, with a cushion of cartilage inside the joint to give us that fluid range of motion we need every day. Over time, the cartilage will begin to wear down, or become damaged. The muscles and tendons that are attached to the hip, that join it to our torso and to our legs, can be overused, and stretched or torn.

The bones that form the hip, and its ball and socket joints, are just like any other bone in our bodies. They can become broken if we fall, or be susceptible to any number of bone disorders, especially arthritis. When this happens, or any number of other medical conditions, the hips begin to hurt, and stop working as they should. Are you or a loved one regularly bothered by hip pain? You can find a good hip pain treatment and period pain treatment on the website hihip.com.au.

I will talk now about Jungian Psychology and where you can find a good jungian analyst new york. Jungian psychotherapy is a style of psychodynamic “talk therapy” which has the same theoretical basis as Jungian analysis. Carl Jung, the originator of this style of therapy was a contemporary of Freud and shared with him a belief in the power and importance of unconscious processes in shaping our responses… an understanding which has since been supported by cognitive research.

A Jungian approach to therapy combines the best current scientific psychological knowledge about human behavior and thinking habits and interweaves it with a respectful appreciation of philosophical and spiritual wisdom. If you live in New York you can find places where you can get jungian therapy nyc.

Compassion, non-judgmental attention and empathy create a therapeutic environment where, curiosity, self-revelation and self-exploration are safe and supported and where self-understanding can grow. Jungian therapy begins with a gentle but thoughtful discussion of the history of an individual’s experiences…in their family of origin, their social and work lives and in current intimate relationships. As the patterns and origins of past choices become visible, alternative directions can be considered, implemented and adjusted. Often new meanings can be ascribed to old experiences and a better relationship can be formed with the past and the people in it. Acceptance of the part that we play in creating the things we experience rekindles a sense of agency. Recognition or revival of deeply held personal values lends a sense of purpose and meaning to life. You can find through internet the best Jungian Analyst NYC.

Many studies have recently shown the importance of Vitamin D. We’ve always known this to be true, but our increasingly sedentary lifestyles and significant amount of time spent indoors are pointing to an increasing lack of Vitamin D.

Where does Vitamin D come from? The easiest way to get vitamin D is about 10 to 15 minutes of time spent in the sun. Our skin uses the sun to generate vitamin D, and it is actually beneficial for a host of functions in our body. These functions range from regulating our moods to keeping our bones strong.

Recent tests were conducted in a laboratory against bones that had sufficient amount of vitamin D versus those that were insufficient in vitamin D levels. What these tests found was that vitamin D helps our bones conduct an important process called “mineralizing” which is what makes our bones hard. Furthermore, these tests also showed that bones lacking vitamin D weren’t nearly as strong and that a lack of vitamin D was contributing to premature aging of bones.

Essentially, vitamin D helps our bodies absorb calcium, and when it is lacking our bodies pull calcium from our bones. Hence, when we don’t spend enough time in the sun our bodies are looking to fill the calcium void which in turn leads to weak bones. Replacing the vitamin D can help those bones return to strength and aid in calcium absorption.

So what can be done to help those lacking in vitamin D? The general consensus seems to be that we all need about 600 IUs of vitamin D per day. Of course, spending some time outdoors is the easiest way to acquire vitamin D, but there are other ways. Yes, it does occur naturally in food like fruits and vegetables, but not really enough to help some that are lacking the proper levels of vitamin D.

Although spending time in the sun is ideal, it isn’t always easy. Weather may not easily permit time outdoors, and people often have very busy schedules. If you can’t find time to get outdoors there is another solution.

One of the more unique ways to boost vitamin D levels is by taking a trip to the tanning salon. The same UV bulbs that are used to tan skin work similar as the sun to help our bodies create vitamin D. It is almost hard to imagine that between the walls of a tanning salon booth are the tools that help create stronger bones.

In conclusion, vitamin D is very important to our health. It helps our bodies absorb calcium and keeps our bones strong. Spend some time outdoors or take a trip to the tanning salon to keep your vitamin D levels where they need to be.

coconut_oil

Grandma always told you to adopt healthy eating strategies, and she wasn’t too wrong. Take a look at yourself, the mirror doesn’t lie. The oil of a coconut has plenty of health benefits, and that’s why misconceptions should be shunned for good. In fact health experts across the globe swear by the benefits of using this, and you too should consider making a switch for the same.

Coconut oil benefits health in ways more than one, which wouldn’t be seen in many other essential common oils found around. One thing is for sure, you won’t grow fat consuming coconut oil, since MCT or medium chain triglycerides are found in it. MCT helps with fuelling the body’s needs, and doesn’t aid with fat development. Other oils have LCT’s or long chain triglycerides, which store fat.

Now you know why people of the tropics are so slim and healthy at the same time, this is because in most of their cooking, it is used. Even those who have livestock and would want to keep their animals lean, use coconut feed. Health articles too praise the use of this oil, and it’s not only your grandma who does that.

Balding patches, round crowns, skin trouble, and hair fall, all of this can take a toll on your self-esteem. Say goodbye to all of that, because apart from using this for healthy eating, one can also save their skin and hair too. Who wouldn’t like compliments on glowing skin and flawless bouncy hair, so say goodbye to chemical treatments and welcome the natural cures of coconut oils. Skin would be smoothened and your hair would shine, be ready for those praises.

With coconut oils used for healthy foods to cook with, you not only get fuel for the body, but also higher metabolism too. With higher metabolism, you have more chances of burning calories, in an effective way. This means, no fat adding and no worrying about an expanding waistline. Through internet you can find how to make coconut flour biscuits.

Everyone knows that going to the dentist is good for your oral health, but what many don’t realize is that it can actually be a fun place to visit. That’s right; gone are the days when the dental office was a dreary or dreaded place to go. Today, not only can you get your teeth cleaned and cavities filled, you can enjoy yourself while you’re there.

Decorating Makes the Space

If you think a dentist office has to be boring or blah, you would be incorrect. Many dentistry offices have in been designed with vibrant and memorable decor in mind: bright colors, murals, whimsical furnishings, and art. Entering a waiting room that has modern design or comfy arm chairs to lounge in can make the difference between discomfort and comfort. In the examining rooms, murals of relaxing scenes are often painted on the wall in front of the dental chair. Sometimes murals are even painted on the ceiling. If there’s an ocean scene or a forest of trees and wildlife painted artistically before you, you can study it and take your mind off of your root canal.

Entertainment

Why sit around thumbing through outdated magazines when your dentist has a variety of entertainment devices in the waiting and examining rooms? Wide screens might be playing movies or showing the latest installment of your favorite reality show. At pediatric DDS’s offices, there are often video games and kid’s movies. Children’s dental providers often have toys to play with, and climbing structures for young patients to climb on while waiting their turn. If you need to wear protective eye-gear while you’re in the chair, your dental office might have a basket of wild-and-crazy sunglasses to don which are lots more fun than clear goggles.
